What do To During a Dental Emergency
Oral trauma can be painful, distracting, and confusing, and it often requires immediate attention. Because of the risks of delaying care, it’s important to know what is considered a dental emergency and what to do.
Losing a Tooth
If a natural tooth falls out or is knocked out, call us right away. Try to find your tooth, but when you do, do not touch the root. Gently rinse it and, if you can, place it back in the original socket or in-between your cheek and remaining teeth. You can also place the tooth in a glass of milk.
Broken or Fractured Tooth
When a tooth fractures or breaks, internal damage may occur, which requires immediate treatment. Call us right away if this happens. While you wait to be seen, you may rinse your mouth with warm water and use a cold compress to reduce any swelling.
Severe Toothache
Oral pain may be a sign of an underlying issue and should never be ignored. Infection, damage, disease, and more may cause severe oral pain. To reduce any risk of your condition worsening, you should call us right away to set up an appointment.
Damage/Loss of Restoration
Damaging or losing a restoration, like a crown or filling, could lead to re-injury. To avoid further damage, call us right away to set up an appointment.
